Eligibility Criteria To Enter in Merchant Navy

One should have either one of the following degree to join in merchant navy.

• Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering 

• Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering

• Graduate Degree in Naval Architecture

People who are interested to apply for merchant navy should always think about which company and institute to apply.

Now a days merchant navy field is completely flooded with more number of junior engineer cadets and deck cadets who are passed out from different institutes all over India and left with no berth on ship. One should get a trainee ship upon successful completion of GME (Graduate Marine Engineer Course) in case of engineer cadets and DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) in case of deck cadets.

While applying for institutes one should keep in mind whether the institutes are able to provide placement on board ship upon completion of course. Getting placed on board ship is crucial part as cadets should complete their sea time in order to get certificate of competency (COC) which qualifies them to get promoted to higher ranks.

They are also some other good institutes offering GME course but after completion of GME course cadet should search for a company to get placed on board to complete his training.

If you applied for a company and got selected then company will sponsor you which means upon successful completion of training they will place you on their ships. Here sponsorship means they will place you on ship upon successful completion of training but course fee need to be paid from your own expenses.
